Last month, students in Mrs. Goodwin's sixth grade science class had a fun hands on experiment! She writes: " My students are learning about states of matter. To better understand water's surface tension property, students used pipettes to drop single drops of water onto pennies. First they predicted how many drops of water they could get on the penny before it overflowed. Then, they did the experiment to see how many they could actually get. Most students were surprised that their actual number of drops far exceeded their prediction!" This is a classic experiment that you probably did in your own science class way back in the 1900s! And it's a classic for a reason- informative, exciting and sometimes, a bit shocking! Thank you for sharing, Ms. Goodwin!

Happy Halloween to all those who celebrate out there! Ms. Harwood’s math classes designed pumpkins on the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, and used estimation of volume to guess how many m&ms were in the jar! These students won the top 3 designs, and the m&m estimation. It was a fun way to incorporate math into Halloween! Thank you so much for sharing Ms. Harwood! And have a great weekend, everyone!

Safety Update - 11/2/25
The Fall Book Fair is just around the corner! Did you know you can visit our website right now to load money into your student's eWallet? The digital flyer is also linked so your family to plan ahead on what to purchase. *When looking at the flyer and pricing things out, please keep in mind that sales tax is charged!*

While eWallet is highly preferred, you may also send in cash or card with your student to make purchases.

The Book Far is running during the week of November 10th-14th, however, if you come to PTO's Fall Family Night Friday, November 7th, you'll have a chance to visit it on Opening Night! We hope to see you there!

💙💛THANK YOU PTO! WE LOVED OUR PANDA EXPRESS LUNCH!💛💙

PTO designated profits from the ever-popular Friday Ice Cream sales to treat the ILIS Staff to a "just because" lunch! Even though it's not Friday, the Friday Energy is on a level 10 in the building. Fall parties are on deck tomorrow, the 6th graders had a field trip, we got Orange Chicken...it's been a fun day to say the least!

We just can't thank them enough for the meal, and enough left overs to hold us over until tomorrow. Thank you PTO!

Last month we had the coolest field trip in the galaxy come by ILIS! Our 5th graders were fully immersed in discovery as the SkyDome Planetarium brought the wonders of the universe to life, enriching their study of Earth's place amongst the stars. Students learned how to identify every planet in our solar system in dramatic "flights" towards each world. They were also introduced to Greek mythological characters and saw how these heroes of the past can be found in the stars. Students also witnessed the night sky in different seasons and from different global perspectives. It was magical, mythical and brought the solar system right to them without having to board Ms. Frizzle's magic school bus!

Happy Monday Morning, Warriors! Last week 5th grade Journalism students welcomed guest speaker Kevin Kremer who is a producer at ESPN for SEC college sports . Mr. Kremer, a father to student Benjamin, showed students how cameras are set up for college games & how certain shots are captured. Students were able to see what the control rooms look like. He also explained how communication is key in his position. Thank you so much for coming to visit our school and work with our journalism students, Mr. Kremer!

This week, Ms. Phillips shared a project that her students have been working on. She writes: "Today, students shared their Immigration projects with their classmates! They had the choice to do a Genealogy project, a Family Flag or the 'Adopted into America' & 'Created in America' project. This is a wonderful project that allows students to learn more about their families as well as each other’s families." This is such a beneficial life lesson (on top of a great social studies project!) for our Warriors. What they learned during this project is something they'll carry with them always. Have a great rest of your Saturday, Warriors!

Earlier this month, things got a little messy in Ms. Purcaro’s 6th grade science class! Our young scientists dove into the digestive system, learning how the body breaks down food from start to finish. They mashed up mixtures to mimic the stomach, squeezed “digested” goop through a hose to see how the large intestine works (yep, if you're thinking "they're making poop!" you'd be correct!), and even created their own digestive comics to show off what they learned. It’s messy. It’s memorable. It’s another great lesson from Ms. Purcaro's Science Class!

Our amazing Counseling Team brought the whole school together for one incredible cause: UNITY DAY! 💪🧡 On this day, people wear orange to show support for victims of bullying and to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Our students and staff showed up in every shade of orange. Even the Gamecock fans said, “Alright… just this once, I’ll wear orange for a good cause!” Our fantastic PTO loved the idea so much, they joined in on the fun, sending over 1,250 Rice Krispies Treats so every student could enjoy a sweet celebration of unity! We hope you’re having a Wonderful Wednesday, Warriors! Remember: we’re always better together! 💫

Fridays are always fun, but do you know what makes them EXTRA fun?! Getting some love from our friends at Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea! They brought us delicious, pipping hot, fresh brewed coffee, creamers and sugars and it was the extra pep in our step that we needed to get through the last day of the week! And who can have coffee without donuts?! PTO was so thoughtful and used some of the ice cream sales profits to treat staff to Sumo Donuts! We were fed and fueled for the last day of the quarter! And don't forget- as a school, we all wore our brightest and best pinks to show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness. It was amazing to see our students and staff come together to support such an important cause. We hope you all had a beautiful weekend, and enjoy your Monday!

We have a Throwback Thursday for you all from Ms. Gregory! She writes: "Today our students had an art therapist come to our room to have students make a craft using different items with different textures. These sessions provide enrichment based support, help explore emotions, develop coping skills, and express themselves non-verbally through art. Kids made cardboard hearts with various textures 🩵" The projects look beautiful, Warriors!

Hey Warriors- We had another 24 hour challenge before the Color Run. Tuesday, September 23. Mr. Miller said he would grant a VIP lunch experience for whichever class raised the most money in each team! A big shout out and thank you to our PTO, not only did they provide the supplies for beautifully decorated tables with balloons and cookies, but they also provided volunteers! The winning classes enjoyed having time with their assistant principal, and sitting at a VIP table! Congrats to the homerooms of Ms. Compton, Mr. Crook, Ms. Riesett and Ms. Garrison's classes! (Ms. Compton's photo got lost in the clouds but they had a BLAST with Ms. Bachini!)
