Officer Hiott joined the ILIS Team a few weeks ago, and he already feels like family. The kids love him, he's a wonderful help and we can't thank him enough for all he's done already!
Below is a fun Q&A we did to help you get to know him better!
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small one red light, one gas station town called Hickory Tavern in South Carolina.
Tell us about your family!
I am married with two daughters. My wife Macy is an ER Nurse. My oldest's name is Paige, she will be 5 this October. My youngest's name is Charlie, she will be 3 this June.
What was your favorite subject in school?
I looked forward to PE everyday, but my favorite subject was history by far. To this day I love to watch documentaries about the past.
What are some of your hobbies?
I love to play golf and go hiking. I also play for a men's church softball league in attempt to live out my glory days... I furthermore thoroughly enjoy cruising. I 100% believe that it is the best way to vacation.
What is one thing students might be surprised to learn about you?
They might be surprised how much I love WWE. I go to all the events in the surrounding areas when WWE comes around. I also work out at the same gym and have frequent run-ins with current WWE superstar R-Truth.
How long have you worked in Law Enforcement?
I have worked in law enforcement for 2 years. I started my career with South Carolina Highway Patrol after i got out of the Marine Corps. I was assigned to Beaufort/Jasper counties in the lowcountry. I came to the sheriff's office in december 2025.
What made you want to become an SRO?
I wanted to be an SRO because I genuinely love children, having two kids myself. I believe children are an important asset to our nation's future, and I strive to protect that each and every day.
What's your favorite part about working with our students?
My favorite part is building relationships with students from all different walks life. Weather thats as simple as a fistbump or handshake in the hallway. Or if its sitting down and having a heart to heart talk about things. I enjoy every minute of it.
What is some advice you'd give to our Warriors?
I am a firm believer in showing respect for others, and with that comes having manners. If you manage to live your life constantly showing respect it will make you stand out, and take you places.
Anything else you'd like to share?
I am an open book. Business related questions or not shoot them my way. I love meeting new people and having conversations. I look forward to many school years with you and your children. God bless.
